We learned how to make pool noodle shooters and did a lesson on measurement, estimation and greater than less than. This lesson is a wonderful, interactive lesson that gets kids thinking and excited about what they are doing. My kids loved experimenting with different objects to see how they flew. Or didn’t! You can also tie in the laws of gravity to this lesson!
I created my shooter first to show them what they were making.
We then created theirs together.
How to make pool noodle shooters
Cut the pool noodle into small pieces, about 4-5 inches long.
Cut the balloon on the side you blow.
Wrap it around the pool noodle and duct tape it down.
Stick your object in the hole and then snap back the balloon and shoot!
- Based on how far the objects went, is there a tool that would be better for measuring in this activity?
- Is there another tool that could give us exact measurement?
- Why would some tools not work as well ?
We had a blast with this activity and the kids kept their shooters to do some experimenting on their own.
I have created a chart for you to record estimations!
